Open to APM and product roles

PEC CHANDIGARH · CLASS OF 2027

Saurabh Bansal

I'm a computer science undergrad who builds products and then finds out whether they actually work. I've interned at American Express and Xlscout, and I ship side projects to real users — usually my friends, who tell me the truth.

ABOUT

Who I am

I'm in the final stretch of a computer science degree at Punjab Engineering College, specialising in data science and graduating in 2027. Most of what I know about building products came from two internships and a handful of side projects I couldn't leave alone.

At American Express I spent six months on the Offers Diagnostics Scorecard — owning the KPI layer behind it, building a tool so teams outside analytics could get answers without waiting on an analyst, and replacing a manual mapping process with a Python pipeline. Before that, at Xlscout, I turned a translation workflow that ran through an engineer into a web app the authors could use themselves.

The rest of my time goes into building. A gym-accountability app my friends and I actually use, and a resume-tailoring tool I'm working on now. I like the part where you ship something, watch what people really do with it, and change it.

Product Development Intern

  • Owned the KPI layer of the Offers Diagnostics Scorecard — around 60 metrics — and worked out which ones were worth automating first, based on how fiddly they were to calculate and how easily they went wrong.
  • Built a GPT-based tool across four legacy data sources with the business rules baked in, so teams outside analytics could ask a plain-language question and get an answer that matched everyone else's.
  • Replaced a manual merchant and account mapping process with a Python pipeline. It cut the cycle time by about 70%, and turned up 41 accounts nobody had mapped.
  • Automated the monthly Business Review data cuts off the scorecard files and BigQuery, retiring several hours of Excel pivoting per cycle — for a review that goes up to the Group President, U.S. Consumer Services.

Xlscout

Data Scientist Intern

  • Turned a manual translation workflow into a web application, so authors could submit and retrieve translations themselves instead of going through an engineer every time.
  • Benchmarked four machine translation backends against human-verified patent content, found their strengths were language-dependent, and shipped per-job model selection so users could compare outputs for themselves.
  • Rolled it out to more product teams, fixed the layout problems they reported, and kept refining the output until documents came out usable. It was still in active use when I handed it over.

PROJECTS

What I've built

auto-apply

In progress

JUL 2026 – PRESENT

A resume tool that reframes the experience you already have against a specific job description.

  • You give it your full history once, and it reworks that evidence per job description instead of making you rewrite from scratch every time.
  • The part I care about most is the gap analysis: it separates the qualifications you have but haven't written down from the ones you genuinely don't have, so the output stays honest and specific.

Live

MAY 2026 – JUL 2026

A gym-accountability app that puts real money on a weekly goal.

  • My friends and I kept failing at informal check-ins, so I built the version with consequences: a weekly money stake on a shared goal, GPS check-ins verified server-side, and settling up inside the app.
  • The real problem turned out to be remembering, not tapping. I replaced manual check-in with an iOS Shortcut that fires on arrival against a per-user webhook secret. Everyone set it up, and the app turned into somewhere people came back to read their own streak.
  • 38 REST API routes, 52 Postgres migrations, and PostHog wired in so I could see what people were actually doing rather than what I assumed.
